Numbered thoughts.

1. Exams are in two weeks. Eeek!
2. I bitch way too much about how boring my coursework is. This shall stop now.
3. My results for the last exams came in with an A, A-, B and B-.
4. I turn 20 in 5 days.
5. I miss home.

strip.

It's 4am and I'm still up studying pathology for a tutorial on Monday. I'm sleepy, and bored. So I made a comic to amuse myself. Then decided to blog about it to procrastinate (If you're wondering why the hell am I procrastinating, well, you and me both then). I will regret this later, but for now I give you my brand spankin' first ever comic strip.

I should stop doodling on lecture notes.
Meh.

During that guy's class, I make puzzles or guess-who-doodles to pass time, like this:
Apparently, the person I suck at doodling is myself. Everyone else got the other guess-who doodles right.
Next week, I shall attempt to recreate Where's Waldo!

I would like to state here that I'm not obsessed with Aztecs as I have been falsely accused. It's just that when I do eventually find something interesting enough, I tend to read up and think about it a lot, and naturally it comes up in conversation and artwork. I did this last week, too bad my scanner sucks and a lot of the soft colours have faded. The real thing is AMAZING, with feathers, shells and pebbles. The Aztecs deserve the Noble Prize in peace and chemistry for finding chocolate!

Headress of Moctezuma II using crayon, pencils and colour pencils.

I've been busy illustrating for little projects like gifts (so many people are December babies!), t-shirts, canvas bags and button badges. The amount of support from friends and family over the imadethis! project has been terrific, and I am truly grateful. Thank you for planting the idea in my head, convincing me to do it and believing that I CAN actually do it. I'm meeting manufacturers and printers in January after my Cardiovascular and Respiratory System block exams. I'm hoping to maintain a B at least, as a yardstick to whether or not I pass my First Final Professional Exam *insert nervous nail biting here* (It's this big exam after you finish your preclinical years, to determine whether you get to move on to the clinical years) and more importantly, if I get to go to Uganda!

Much love.

The sea is calling.

*Pictures were taken with a Nikon D8O or an Olympus IRsomething.

Just in need of a vacation.

I was born in the state of sandy beaches, rolling waves and coconuts. My family drives back to Terengganu a few times a year to visit my grandparents and spend time in the village. We go to the beach with my cousins (I have 11!) and have a picnic or BBQ there most of the time. We usually make the journey around this time of the year.

This secluded beach is only 15 mins away from my grandparents' home and known mostly to locals. It's like having your own private beach.

Pulau Perhentian is one of the best islands in Terengganu to go snorkeling and scuba diving. I love it here, the fishes and corals are beautiful.

We loike turdles!

The beach we frequent has a turtle sanctuary, and if you're lucky (or come in a large group with money to pay them) you get to release baby turtles into the sea. My little cousin had a plan to kidnap this one and keep it as a pet. The plan failed. Never trust 8 year olds with making diabolical plans involving cute animals.

We stay till the sun goes down
(or until one of the adults get bored and want to leave).

Good vibrations to all.

what do you mean it's bad for you?

I decided to get snackage in the form of yummy chocolaty goodness before I start self-inflicted torture studying in the library. I was in the lift, one hand carrying a bar of chocolate and another with a cup of coffee when the Head of Anesthesiology went on. He threw me a shocked and disappointed look and said "What? Chocolates for lunch?!" while shaking his head. It was all very dramatic. But doesn't he know that chocolate is the root of all happiness?

*Anis without chocolates.

Anis having chocolates.
Happy as a clam.

Good juju to all.

*By the way, I'm Anis. Hi.

**I've been doodling aliens, whipped cream, and pyramids. To be posted once I've learnt the art of colouring. I'm learning how to use watercolour (given up on digital colouring. Photoshop has failed me.) and the usage of colour. I wish I attended art class at least once, then I won't look so dumb when my brother tries to explain that my choice of colours don't "balance".

Pets, Art and Music.

Two of my three goldfish died mysteriously. I barely had them for a week.

RIP Joe and Johnson.
Joe aka Xochtil
(I tried to give them Aztec names as they're gold.
It's a mouthful and I ended up calling them something simpler.)

My books have been calling my name for the past few days, and I am answering that call. I have a cardiology quiz around the corner and I haven't been able to doodle anything. So in the meantime I give you (you are no one, no one is reading this.) this very awesome video.

To wrap up all that awesomeness in a neat lil' package, here's some Arcade Fire for you. They've been playing in my head for days. This is an old song from their album Funeral. I don't think this is their video, but the others on youtube aren't as clear.

All is love.

hello new week.

How my weekend was spent:
1) catching up with my lovely family and friends
2) lying in bed for hours reading about the Mayans, Aztecs and Incas
3) making mashed potatoes and other gastronomical delights
4) watching a ridiculous amount of Family Guy

How my weekend wasn't spent:
1) studying anything related to medicine
2) being productive

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

pharmacology blues

Most of my detailed doodles can only be done during the worst scenarios; being stuck in class.

Need I say more?

down Grizzly, down!

So therapeutic.

I've been posting a lot of cutesy stuff, so now it's time to show the things I doodle when not everything is going fine and dandy.

There have been times when I was younger where I get so frustrated to the point where words fail me and hot tears of anger come streaming down. When I was around 16, my aunt gave me my first sketchbook after one of those episodes and told me to just draw everything I feel out.

selamat harijadi!

One of my favourite person turns twenty today. She's superfantasticabsolutelymagic in so many ways. She's so awesome, she deserves TWO cupcakes!

Happy 20th Birthday Dinah!
Much love!

portions of foxes

Early mornin' doodle

I woke up this morning and had a fox in mind. This is only my second attempt to use photoshop for colour editing, but hopefully practice will make perfect. I spent around 3 hours on it, not a wise decision when I have exams the next day. The IMADETHIS! team is thinking of putting Mr Renard as a tshirt print.

Miss Lady and Mister Gentleman are in love.

I finally learnt how to use photoshop, thanks to my good friend CTK! Yay for her and her photoshop abilities! I haven't learnt how to vectorize yet, just to fill in colours so that doodles like the owl will still have its colour.

stay up late, get up early

One of the very few times I had colour pencils with me while doodling.
It's too bad the brown and purple can't be clearly see.

I've been living the nocturnal life for the past few weeks. My sleep-wake cycle is messed up that by the time morning comes, slumber comes too. The perks of this is that I finally get some quiet time alone and by the time I rest my head, I'm greeted by the chirps of birds and the beautiful morning skyline. It would be perfect if I don't have to get up 2 hours later for class.
Alas, nothing in life is perfect.

forget pie, how about a big slice of doodles!

Boredom kills. To save me from stabbing myself with a pen to end my misery in classes, I doodle. It's on automatic pilot, I see anything capable of being drawn upon, I will draw on it. Sometimes they turn out cute, sometimes they turn out strange, but they do reflect where my mind is at that point.

I don't do it as much now as I used to. Even though it doesn't take long to doodle something funny (subject to opinion), it is pretty distracting. It would be hard to explain to patients why I don't know what's wrong with them because I wasn't fully paying attention to the professors.

Scribbled for a t-shirt designing project with two other lovely people.

I just realised I should really get a sketch pad.

open the gates and let new sounds enter!

I've been listening Thao and the Get Up Sit Down for a few days, and her husky voice and catchy tune is just simply musical bliss. Know Better. Learn Faster is definitely an album for keeps.

The Black Keys sounds like a blend of rock and blues with garage undertones. Their songs make you feel like driving around all day with a cigarette in your mouth, doing whatever the hell you want. I highly recommend rubber factory for those days where you just don't care.

i need bold furniture.

I want these by Eleanor Young!
